A Personal Note from Dave Knight: Ooze Safety

Dave Knight, SEEN Safety CEO and Oliver Randall, SEEN Safety BDM (EMEA)

In the 12 months since starting with SEEN Safety I have travelled to the US five times, the UK twice and Australia semi-regularly.

I’ve had the chance to spend time on the ground with the SEEN team, and meeting with customers and partners. I wanted to get a real sense of what's happening in workplaces across the globe —to hear their stories and see their challenges firsthand.

It's one thing to talk about safety in the office, but it's a completely different experience to be standing on a warehouse floor listening to EHS professionals and MHE operators share their insights, experience, ideas and frustrations. What I heard loud and clear is that everyone is committed to safety, but the solutions they're using aren't always working.

I noticed a few things that really stuck with me:

  • The Problem with False Alerts: Time and time again, I heard about the challenge of false alerts. We met with teams who have invested in technology they hoped would keep their people safe, only to find the constant, unnecessary beeping was a distraction. These alerts are called ‘nuisance alerts’ for a reason. It's frustrating for operators and it erodes trust in the system. It made me incredibly proud to see how our approach to selective detection, using laser-based technology helps teams stay focused while improving safety.

  • The Human Connection: The most powerful safety programs aren’t about technology; they are about the people. As I said many times, "Organizations often assume detection is enough. But the most effective safety programs combine technology with training, awareness, and a strong workplace culture. It’s about building a culture where everyone looks out for one another.”

  • Data with a Purpose: The conversations about data, privacy, and cybersecurity were particularly insightful. I heard concerns from leaders who want to use data to improve safety but worry about overwhelming their teams. My message to them was simple: data is a tool, not a weapon. Use it to identify learning moments, not for punitive reasons. I observed that everyone wants to be safer and once they see the unseen they happily change their behaviour. Our mission is to help organizations use data strategically, to identify real risks and improve safety culture in a way that inspires continuous improvement.

As a company, our mission isn't just about selling technology. We exist to help organisations avoid tragedy and ensure everybody gets home safely.  We help organizations see where the real risks lie, and give them the insight to act before incidents occur.

Every trip has been a powerful reminder that our work is fundamentally about people—helping them get home safe to their families every single day.

The global SEEN team is built on this commitment. We ooze safety.

If you ooze safety, connect with us. We work with MHE operations teams, EHS professionals and forklift OEM’s globally, and are always happy to share what we are seeing that can help avoid tragedy and ensure everyone gets home safe.
